This is response to a posting from Governor's Office asking for the citizens to support his request to not signing the 9-1-1 bill.
This increase is only $7.56 a year. Although it is a large percentage increase, it does not generate a lot of money, about $75 million annually. The Governor is asking for $900 million just to upgrade the state’s computer system. This 9-1-1 money must:
Upgrade computers systems of well over 100 computer systems statewide
Implement a statewide system which is going to cost tens of million of dollars annually
Replace the lost revenue from the reduction in landlines
Provide operational relief to cash strapped public safety budgets across the state
Aid in the consolidation efforts being mandated by the state law
The $1.05 recommended by the Statewide 9-1-1 advisory meant to make the fund and replace the shortfall in the $.87. The $1.05 cannot and will not meet the preceding points. The $1.50 generates enough resource to move our 9-1-1 systems into the 21st century.

2017 Legislative Updates from: Illinois APCO and Illinois NENA
The Illinois chapters of APCO and NENA are supporting the 911 Public Education Committee for our 2nd annual 911 Run. This venture will to help raise awareness on the need for 9-1-1 education in communities across the United States as well as gain some needed funding to continue our goals. We work hard to create free resources to be utilized by departments and aid in creating 9-1-1 education programs to departments that have less funding available to them. Since our sponsors are non-for-profit, creating resources and public service messages can be limiting. Profits from this race will be used towards our committee and allow us to create more material for any 9-1-1, police, fire and EMS department to benefit from.
Please see the attached flyer (click here) that contains all the 2017 911 Run information and frequently asked questions. In the spirit of teamwork, please forward the 2017 911 Run information to co-workers, family, friends, and anyone who may be interested so they can take part in this fun event. The Illinois 911 Public Education Committee thanks each of you and is looking forward to your involvement!
